04. what we're up to

We try very hard to be self-funding; but please consider giving a donation to help in our efforts to develop a program where area humane societies, shelters and animal control work together to exchange adoptable animals.

Animals not piquing someone’s interest in one place, just might in another. Our sanctuary would serve as the central exchange location. Here, animals could take a break from shelter life for a few weeks and then move on to another adoption facility.

To that end, we are:

- Installing ceiling exhaust fans and insulation in our main kennel building.
- Developing the six acres behind our buildings so the animals can spend more time outside. Dogs need to explore, play and run to remain happy and adoptable.
- Turning an already existing air-conditioned space into a cat haven, complete with tunnel lined ceilings and window level perches.

We’re also working to sponsor large scale spay and neuter programs in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. Anyone wanting to have an animal altered should be able to do so without having to qualify.

Shelters are not the answer to the pet overpopulation problem.

How you can help:
Give a cash donation – every penny goes towards the care of the animals.
Donate a tree for our fields in memory or honor of a pet.

All donations to Satchel’s Last Resort are tax-deductible. We are a registered 501 (c) (3).
