| Our dream is to obtain acreage and create a sanctuary where
animals from area shelters can take a break from shelter life and
just be dogs and cats again and where so called “unadoptables” can
live out their natural lives in a safe, loving environment.
Working with
the shelters and the sheriff’s department, we want to start an
exchange program where animals from one shelter who haven’t been
adopted after a few weeks can come to Satchel’s Last Resort in
exchange for animals from different shelters who have already spent
some time at the sanctuary. All the animals would then be seen by
more potential adopters and would have better lives while waiting to
be adopted.
Knowing that an animal’s time is
just about up is very painful for shelter workers and
volunteers. We are hoping that our exchange program and sanctuary
lead to the elimination of euthanization except in cases of
terminally ill or suffering animals. |
