Sierra's owner could no longer keep her and so when the Humane Society of Sarasota County had an opening she took her there. So please go there if you would like to adopt Sierra. It must be devastating for her to find herself in a shelter so please spread the word about this wonderful dog so that she can get a new home sooner than soon.
This is what her owner wrote about her:
I have a 8 (almost 9) year old black lab/collie mix. She is the most wonderful dog in the world. She loves to take walks, she loves to have her back scratched, and she loves people. I have had her since she was 10 weeks old and I love her more than life.
Unfortunately we have to find her a new home. She is snarling and showing minor aggression issues at my 18 month old son (when he rightfully deserves it) but I am pregnant with another baby due in January and I cannot take the chance that she is going to become more threatended and take the chance that she might snap at my son or my new baby. This is the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to do. She is not a bad dog. 99.9% of the time she is great with my son, they can be best buddies. But there are the times when she just wants to be left along and he doesn't understand that so she snarls at him.
Although she is a GREAT dog, she does not always get along with other dogs. She is a dominant female dog. Finding a home for a 8 year old dog that does not always get along with other dogs is almost impossible. I have tried almost everything. I have tried the lab rescue but they cannot find a foster home that does not already have a dog. Although she has some minor issues with other dogs, we have come to realize that those "issues" may have been dogs coming onto her property (our house). She has NEVER attacked another dog or a person. She was just at my uncles house for over 24 hours and he has two dogs, according to my uncle, everything was fine. There was never an issue.
Sierra just went to her last annual physical about 5 weeks ago. If I remember correctly, she weights 75lbs (I could be off by a few pounds). She is spayed and she is up to date on all of her shots. I have copies of all of her vet records for the past five years that I can provide to anyone who is interested in taking her. This will give someone insight into her health (she has been very healthy).
Any person would be lucky to have Sierra as a pet. She is more than a pet to me, she is family. I guess this is why I am trying so hard to find her a great home. She really deserves it.
