A friend of ours had a dog follow him home. She was severely malnourished and had sores all over with a lot of hair loss. (Second photo shows what she looked like then). She was such a sweet dog and they didn't want to see her go somewhere to be stuck in a cage all day or worse. She appeared to be at least part pit bull and we know from experience with our street rescued AmStaff that pitbulls are not given a fair chance and are labeled as dangerous. So, we took her in knowing that we could at least get her to the vet and get her cleaned up and taken care of. Plus, she seemed to get along well with our other rescue, Jasper. We thought he could use a friend and she could use a family. We got her to the vet and started getting her healthy. It seemed as if she had never been in a house before, so we worked on house training her and dealt with her going into heat. After a month or so, we were able to get her fixed. We named her Panda because she was so docile and for her black and white colors.
She was still the sweetest little dog, but we started noticing that she played roughly with Jasper. He doesn't really like how she plays with him, as he is a laid back type of dog. She is a high energy, sweet and loving dog who can be trained easily for most things.
She has a high prey drive for small critters like squirrels and cats. She is ok with larger dogs, but small dogs get her riled up as well.
The interactions she has had with kids have been good ones. We need to find her a new home because our land lady does not want us to have two dogs, for liability reasons. We also have a cat that has had to be sequestered since Panda has been staying with us. We have limited time to find her a home and she deserves a good one.
She's had a lot of love for the past year and she has thrived. I hope someone will be able to continue giving her that, because she will give so much more in return. Please help us if you can!!!
Vet history: She is due for a comprehensive exam and some shots, but we have been holding off because we don't want to re-enroll in insurance since we need to give her up. We are willing to get any shots necessary, though. She is on heartworm and flea medicine. She has been spayed. She weighs 38 lbs and we think she was born in May 2009.
